THE RIGHTS OF PARENTS AND CHILDREN IN STATE INTERVENTION CASES
Families in Massachusetts continue to struggle. Over the last few years increasing numbers of children have been removed from their homes and become part of an overburdened child welfare and court system. Most of these families cannot afford to hire attorneys. In Massachusetts, children and parents have the right to court appointed counsel when the state seeks to take children away from their parents. However, in many parts of the Commonwealth, particularly in the central and western counties, there are not enough certified attorneys to represent all these families in need. The Children and Family Law Division (CAFL) of the Committee for Public Counsel Services (CPCS) needs your help.
